Site Organization

Retro1.Org (and its respective subdomains) is a collection of applications designed to serve the needs of the broader communities of interest. There are many other available ways of interacting with the various communities such as Groups.IO, Discord, and more.

Each of these solutions services an aspect of community collaboration but they tend to be subject to a (in some cases) the standard pitfalls of social networks: lack of curation, poor conduct, and over-moderation.

retro-root

Retro-Root is the central “hub” of Retro1.Org. The Retro1.Org domain along with all of its subdomains comprise the full functionality of the community functions.

codex

codex contains all of the community-provided content. Among the contributions from community members are other more conveniently accessible artifacts such as sources for the operating systems; Project descriptions and details; Recipes for implementation; historical artifacts; backups of critical (pdf) documents which, when possible are linked to bitsavers.org but may not be available elsewhere at all!

The “engine” powering codex is DocuWiki. This wiki is highly extensible and supports a rich hybrid of markup syntax which should make any contributor reasonably comfortable not only in the contribution of content, but also in its ongoing maintenance.

Registration is required to contribute to this site and is done through the cfarchive application.

archer

archer is the “Archive Reader” application which serves as the long-term home for a variety of special and protected reference sources including all ControlFreaks mail-list messages since its inception.

The contents of this application are accessible through registration only. Registration is necessary to protect special content and prevent e-mail address harvesting. Moreover, the registrant must have a verified e-mail address. During registration, the registrant is given the option to contribute or moderate content. Once approved, the registrant will receive a confirmation e-mail with further instructions.

static

static maintains a body of static content which may be referenced by any number of applications. These types of content (images, documents, disk images, etc.) are reasonably non-volatile and are put on network distribution points which have high transfer rates.

todos

todos is the place for the development team to collaboratively maintain the work in progress. Access is restricted to this site and its functionality continues to evolve with the project.
